Kaua'i Day 8: Camping on the Beach

June 9, 2006 Today began the camping portion of our trip. It was a hectic morning as we got ready, ate breakfast, hurried to pack all of our suitcases and get out of our condo by 11a.m. We stored our luggage in the Bali Hai office and only kept with us the things we would need for our camping adventures the next few days.

We then headed to Waioli Beach, where we hung out for a while as we enjoyed the big waves. After relaxing at the beach, we headed to Tropical Taco for lunch. Feeling refreshed, we drove around to several beaches before settling at River Beach. The ocean was too rough to play in, but there was a gentle river that ran through and drained into the ocean. This provided a great place to read for a little while and then take a nap. That is until an over-friendly dog came and licked my face. The dog belonged to some people nearby, but boy was I startled.

That night we headed to CJ’s Steak and Fish Restaurant for dinner. The food there left much to be desired. We were glad to get out of there and head off to set up camp. Unfortunately, we got to Haena Beach just as it was getting dark, which left us scrambling to get things settled. Once we were settled, we walked closer to the water, where we got to see the very end of the sunset.

As we settled in our tent that night, we were able to relax as the sound of the waves against the shore lulled us to sleep.
