Kaua'i Day 12: Pool Time!

June 13, 2006 Though we slept well that night, we were sad to awaken and realize that this was the last day of our trip in Hawaii. After so many perfect days in paradise, it would be very difficult to leave.

We gathered our belongings and made our way to Kuhio’s Restaurant, which was part of the Marriott. Breakfast was great, but we were eager to test this pool that we had been eyeing for so long.

It was perfect, and we found a great spot in the middle of the pool to lay out and read. We took breaks by jumping in the pool and playing volleyball at this net that was set up. At one point, two little girls joined us. One of them had Down’s syndrome and instantly took to Ryan. She climbed all over him, like a monkey in a tree. She enjoyed sitting on his shoulders the most. However, if Ryan allowed her hands to get too close to the water, she would reach down and continually splash it up into his face. Though she didn’t say much, she was very sweet and enjoyed playing volleyball with us.

It was time to leave, so we drove back to Princeville to pick up our luggage and repack for our trip home. This was a deliberate process because we had to arrange things in a specific way so we wouldn’t have to pay extra fees at the airport for our suitcases being too heavy.

We stopped for lunch at Hanalei Gourmet, where we were able to watch some of the Mavs game. We then went to Lappert’s for our last Kauai ice cream and wondered through the Princeville Shops while we savored our treats. It was sad to head to the airport and leave the Garden Island behind. So many precious memories and beautiful sights.

We still had a lot of traveling ahead of us. Five and a half hours to Los Angeles and three hours to DFW. We would stay in Arlington for a few days to visit family before driving more than 13 hours to Louisville, where we would start a new chapter in our lives.
